Wall-Mounted Workstation

A wall-mounted workstation is a fixed clinical computing station, including a monitor, keyboard, and often a folding work surface, secured to a wall to conserve floor space. Care settings use them at points of care for charting and order entry where mobile carts are unnecessary.

What is a wall-mounted workstation?

A wall-mounted workstation is a fixed computing station attached to a wall at the point of care, typically consisting of a monitor, keyboard, and often a fold-down or articulating work surface. Because it is anchored rather than rolled, it preserves floor space in tight clinical rooms and corridors.

These stations are chosen where a clinician needs reliable access to the chart in a single, predictable location and where a mobile cart would simply be in the way. Many fold flat against the wall when not in use to keep walkways clear.

Why is it used in care settings?

Wall-mounted workstations support charting, order entry, and lookups exactly where care happens, reducing the back-and-forth between a patient and a distant nurses' station. Fixing them to the wall also removes the battery, cable, and maneuvering concerns that come with mobile carts.

In an ambulatory surgery center, pre-operative and recovery bays are often compact and high-traffic. A space-saving fixed station lets staff document at the bedside without crowding the area or obstructing the movement of patients and equipment.
